This article written by Max Schwartz discusses the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and informs students on what they can do to take action. Schwartz provides three steps that students can follow while these events take place. The first is for students to talk about what’s going on. Schwartz urges students to talk with friends and peers. In addition to this he warns of the misinformation being spread on social media through sites like Tik Tok and Twitter. Finally, he encourages everyone to do research on the background of this situation in order to stay informed. The second step is to listen and question. Schwartz points out that it’s very important for us to try and see things from different perspectives. He urges us to consider what it would be like living in a country that is under invasion and to ask questions to those who may have more insight on issues such as these. The last step is to stop perforative activism. Things such as GoFundMe’s will do little to actually help Ukraine is this situation. Schwartz highlights the importance of sharing meaningful information and sources as a way to keep spreading knowledge and awareness, rather than hashtags and GoFundMe’s. Schwartz finishes this piece by reminding us that history repeats itself and staying informed and aware can go a long way.
