GUST Framing Statement
One learning outcome that I feel like I have achieved over the course of this semester is that I am able to evaluate information from a variety of sources. I was able to read many different articles and texts and answer different questions about the content. I was even able to draw connections between these different sources. For example, on question 2 of homework #11, I talked about how the ideas Bain presents in his chapter connects to Dweck’s concept of the growth mindset, a topic that I read articles and watched a video on. Also, in project 2, I evaluated information from many different sources including Ungars, Scheuers, and Boyers articles along with the interview I had with Professor Campbell to come to the conclusion that Sociology is an enriched major. Overall, I think that this is a skill I really improved on during this class. Because we were given so many different types of sources and ways to gather information in this class, I was really able to learn how to effectively evaluate information from these different sources and draw connections between them.
One learning outcome that has been a little bit more difficult for me to achieve is engaging in well-being practices reflective of a healthy collegiate lifestyle. While I have been able to get most of my work done and maintain pretty good grades so far, I could definitely work on learning how to manage the stress that comes with being a college student. In many of my audio journals that I have recorded over the weeks of this past semester, I have talked about feeling overwhelmed by the workload of my classes. In my goal setting table for project 1 I put down “Get better at managing stress and anxiety” as one of my personal goals. I have definitely made a little progress in terms of this goal, but it’s something that I still need to work on. I also wanted to try to get more involved on campus by going to different events and possibly joining a club this semester, but I never really got around to doing so. As I continue on in my college experience, I want to keep working on this learning outcome and hopefully achieve it in the future.
