Final Project Write Up

For the final project, I worked with Bridget and Paige and we decided to follow path one. We created a newscast summarizing the major things we learned and took away from this course over the past semester. We started the project by assigning roles to each of us. Bridget was the host of the newscast and edited the video while Paige and I were the people being interviewed. We brainstormed some questions that we thought would do a good job at explaining the main things we learned. The first question Bridget asked us was what were we expecting when going into the class. I explained how I didn’t really know what to expect, but after taking this class I’ve come to realize how much goes into creating a news story. We then went on to discuss the challenges we faced throughout the semester and I said that for me, deadlines and the digital projects were the most difficult part of the class. Bridget also asked us what were some things we felt went well in this course, so I explained that my favorite part of the class was the workshopping process. I feel like I really learned the most during the workshops, even if it wasn’t my story receiving feedback. I also said that my favorite assignment was the blog-proj because I really enjoyed reading the stories every week and seeing what’s going on at another school. Finally, Paige and I gave advice to students looking to take this class in the future. I said that I suggest keeping an open mind because if you’ve never taken a journalism class, you will have to look at writing in a completely different way than you have before. Overall, I really enjoyed making this project. It was great working with Paige and Bridget and it was nice being able to take a step back and reflect on what I’ve learned from this class at the end of the semester!
