Free Poem #4
Seasons
I drive through a world
where the trees are on fire
and their branches are burning
with leaves of red and orange.
The bitterness of a mid-october breeze
rushes past my face
and makes its way to disturb the peace
of the fragile leaves laying on the ground.
.
And I can’t help but think
that soon my world will be frozen,
and those fragile leaves will lay forgotten
under layers of snow.
Snow that sparkles
when the sunlight hits it just right,
but will melt away
just as the days get longer.
.
And once that snow has said it’s goodbyes
I’ll see flowers starting rise
and bloom from the ground,
like they had been patiently waiting
for their beauty to be known.
What a contrasting site
from a once cold and desolate
winter world.
.
And those flowers stick around
but spring doesn’t,
so summer will bring beach days
and smiles and warm weather.
I’ll be back to sitting in the sand,
watching the sun disappear behind the ocean.
And I’ll never not be amazed
By the beauty in our world.
