Interview Questions

  1. What interests you about and/or made you want to study Sociology?
  2. In his article, Ernest Boyer presents the idea of an enriched major. One of the questions that an enriched major should respond to is, “What are the ethical and moral issues to be confronted (in that field)?” What are some of the big moral and ethical problems that the Sociology program looks to address?
  3.  Another aspect of the enriched major is that it should take a look at the history and traditions of the field. Why would knowing about the history and traditions of the field be important when it comes to Sociology?
  4. Under the Sociology section of the UNE Catalog, it says that upper-level students take part in a sociological experience. The catalog states that, “A second option is for a student to study abroad.” How can studying abroad be beneficial to students in this field and provide them with opportunities that they wouldn’t be able to get while staying at this campus?
  5. On the Sociology home page on the UNE website, it says that, “…there are many careers you may consider, including: … Journalist.” Journalism is something that I am interested in pursuing, so how exactly would a degree in Sociology benefit me in that field of work?
  6. On the home page it also mentions that a degree in sociology can position you to pursue advanced graduate studies in criminology. Can you tell me more about criminology and how a degree in Sociology would set me up to study in that field?
